The Wood Cave is a small workshop, and that shapes how we work. Gordon designs and builds every commission himself, so whether you live ten minutes from Cranleigh or a couple of hours away, you deal with the person making your furniture from first sketch to final fitting.
Most of our work is in Surrey and the neighbouring counties, but distance rarely stops a good project. Smaller pieces can usually be designed from your photos, measurements and a free 3D model; for larger commissions Gordon will come to you. Either way, we deliver and install everything we make.

Surrey
Home ground. Our workshop sits between Cranleigh and Guildford, so Surrey clients can easily visit to choose timbers, talk through details or see their piece at the bench. Recent work here includes an epoxy river table for a home in Guildford.

Sussex
The West Sussex border is a few miles south of the workshop, and much of our timber comes from Surrey and Sussex suppliers. We make tables, storage and fitted pieces for homes from the edge of the South Downs to the coast.
West Sussex: Horsham, Petworth, Midhurst, West Chiltington and Worthing. East Sussex: Brighton.
Hampshire
Farnham sits on the Hampshire border, so the north and east of the county are close to hand, and we’re happy to take commissions as far as Winchester. Smaller pieces can be designed entirely from your photos, measurements and a free 3D model.

Kent
We take commissions across west Kent, from a single dining table to fitted storage. For fitted work Gordon visits to measure; freestanding pieces can often start from your photos and a 3D model.
Royal Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area.
South London
London homes often come with tight alcoves, high ceilings and awkward recesses, which is where made-to-measure furniture earns its place. We design to the centimetre, then deliver and install it ourselves.

Buckinghamshire
We work in south Buckinghamshire too, including a yew coffee table for a home in Beaconsfield. It’s a good fit for a single statement piece as well as larger, coordinated commissions.

A fitted home office in Ascot
Some commissions take us further. In Ascot we designed, made and installed a home office - a three-metre European oak desk, two filing pedestals and matching LED-lit floating shelves. If you’re elsewhere in the South of England, tell us about your project and we’ll let you know honestly whether we can do it justice.

Complete our quote form, or call or email us, to talk through your ideas, your room and your budget. We'll help refine the brief so the design suits your style and space.
2. Site Visit or Design Details
We can visit to measure the room and look at the design in detail, or you can send photos and measurements if that is easier. With wood samples and visual references, we work with you to settle timber, finish and layout.
3. 3D Model
Before quoting, we create a free 3D model of your design. Working from your room's measurements or photos, it shows the furniture in situ, so you can compare styles and adjust details before you commit.
4. Quote & Design Approval
Once the design is settled, you receive a detailed quote with a technical drawing. When you are happy with the details, a 50% deposit secures your commission and we confirm a clear timeline for completion.
5. Handcrafting Your Furniture
Your furniture is handmade in our Surrey workshop. We keep you updated as it takes shape, and you are welcome to visit the workshop to see it in progress.
6. Delivery, Installation & Care
When your furniture is finished, we deliver and install it, checking every detail on the day. You will also receive a care package to help keep it looking its best for years.
